Buc-ee’s

On my way out of Pigeon Forge, I had to make one final stop! Just off I-40 in Sevierville, Tennessee is Buc-ee’s which is the world’s biggest gas station. Buc-ee’s is a cultural phenomenon which has its origins in Texas where there are numerous of these supersized gas stations. Recently, they have been expanding into other Southern states with the location in Sevierville being the newest and biggest.

Now I know what you are thinking, “this is just a gas station”. You would be incorrect…this is BUC-EE’S who’s mascot is a buck-toothed beaver. There are 120 gas pumps to fill up outside. Ridiculous you think, well I found 85% of the pumps in use when I tried to fill up. The restrooms are award winning for their cleanliness and on par with restrooms at Las Vegas resorts! The convenience store is more on the size of a supermarket with departments specializing in jerky, fudge, candied nuts, snacks, clothing, and Texas BBQ.

The founder of Buc-ee’s actually hired a champion pit master to be his culinary director. All the food is prepared in house and the food has gained a pretty good reputation. I got a chopped brisket sandwich for lunch and it was delicious! Another popular item at Buc-ee’s is a snack food they call Beaver Nuggets. I bought a bag and they are quite addictive! The best I can tell they are like a caramel-coated corn puff.

So, if you are ever on the highway in the South and need some fuel along with some good BBQ, stop by Buc-ee’s!
